Choking
Ahogo is a pop band made up of drums by Chris Stutsman, bass guitar
by Bryan Ray, and guitar and vocals by Peter Wagner. The three
members have been together in some shape or form since 1996. Along
with various self produced demos, including some songs recorded
as the Eggs at the Sweatbox in Austin, Choking Ahogo has
recorded one full-length album, Citrus. Since the
album's release, the band has been playing steadily in Austin
(Flamingo Cantina, Beerland, Room 710). The band has also been
giving out self produced demos as new songs are recorded, culminating
in the release of Room 18. These recordings have
been played on local radio (KROX, KLBJ, and KGSR), with regular
spins on Andy Langer's weekly show "The Next Big Thing."
Choking Ahogo recently signed a deal with the Foundry,
a record label and production company co-founded by producer Mike
Clink (Guns n' Roses), and is scheduled to go in to the studio
with Mike in October 2002.
The
band's sound has been characterized by it's melody, noise, and
energy, and has been compared with the likes of Hüsker Dü,
Superdrag, and the Flaming Lips and exhibits influences including
Elvis Costello, Guided By Voices, and Firehose.
